Current Features Planned Features

• Interactive CanvasAt the core of Linkuit Studio is an interactive canvas that allows you to create and manipulate logic circuits easily. Components are fully interactive, meaning they can be selected and moved around.
  
  The canvas also supports multiple levels of detail, depending on the zoom level. As the single most important feature of Linkuit Studio, the canvas is designed to be used intuitively while providing all the functionality you need.
• Logic GatesLogic gates are the building blocks of logic circuits. Linkuit Studio includes all basic gates such as AND, OR, XOR, NOT and buffer gates.
  
  You can invert the inputs and outputs and combine them into any circuit you can imagine.
• SimulationEfficient simulation is obviously a key requirement of Linkuit Studio. The simulator is designed to be fast and efficient, providing advanced features such as stepwise execution.
• Custom File FormatLinkuit Studio comes with its own compact file format that allows you to save and load your circuits.
• Flip-FlopsFlip-flops and latches are indispensable components in most logic circuits. Linkuit Studio includes common flip-flops and latches, such as RS-/D-/JK-/T-Flip-flops, etc.
• Logic ClocksClocks are input components that toggle automatically at a given frequency. Linkuit Studio's clocks can be configured to toggle or to pulse at a given frequency.
• DiodesDiodes allow logic flow in one direction but not in the other. They can be placed at any wire crossing point in both x- and y-direction.
• Undo/RedoAll actions you perform can be undone and redone. This includes adding, removing and moving components, as well as changing their properties.
• En-/DecodersDecoders are components that decode a binary number representation and activate the output corresponding to the decoded value.
  
  Encoders are basically the opposite, encoding the value associated with the activated input into a binary number. Because multiple inputs can be activated, the encoder is implemented as a priority encoder, meaning that the highest activated input is encoded.
• MultiplexersMultiplexers are components that select one of several inputs and pass the input state to a single output. The input is determined by a given binary number.
  
  Demultiplexers work exactly in the opposite way, passing the single input into one of several outputs.
• Custom ComponentsSupport for custom components is planned and will be implemented when the software is stable enough to focus on new features.
• Update OrderThe current component update order can cause problems in time sensitive circuits, as components might be updated before their input components have updated or vice versa.
  
  The update order will replaced by a deterministic order in the future.
• Bus WiresSupport for bus wires is planned and will be implemented when the software is stable enough to focus on new features.
• ScreenshotsUsers should be able to export screenshots from inside the software. This is a minor feature and will be included as soon as possible.
• Advanced TimingThese features include adjustable delay times and monitioring features.
• VHDL/VerilogExport to one of those will be implemented in one of the future versions. Hardware description languages are widely used in academic environments, for example to transfer circuits to FPGAs.
• Colored OutputsDifferent colors that can be assigned to outputs.
• Four-value LogicOn top of the usual LOW and HIGH values, four-value logic includes two additional values. There are multiple possible versions of this logic that have to be assessed.
• Trace View GraphOutput states could be visualized in a graph over time during simulation.
• More ComponentsThese may include 7-segment displays and various other components.

About

Started in early 2022, Linkuit Studio is meant to be helpful for students and teachers who want to learn or teach about logic circuits.

The software is currently available for Windows only but, depending on demand, we will be working on Linux and macOS support in the future. In March of 2024, the software left its beta phase with version 1.0, our first major release.

This version includes an interactive canvas for designing logic circuits using basic components. Future updates will introduce the possibility to create custom components along with many more exciting features.
